Most people consider SOCKEYE to be the pioneers of the "tardcore" genre. SOCKEYE's music is sloppy punk rock, their lyrics are the stupidest you could imagine. They truly are one of those "love them or hate them" bands, and had I not given their early demos repeated listens, I'd probably be in the "hate them" category. They didn't click with me right away, but once they did I was NUTS about them and couldn't get enough.
"Barf on a Globe" was my first CD release on Mortville. Co-released in 1999 with Happy Puppy Records in TX, this 41 track CD collects all of the bands 7"s, split 7"s and 7" comp trax spanning 1989 to 1998. 525 copies were made and it sold out in under 6 months. I've seen copies sell on eBay for as much as $60, 12 times the asking price of $5.00 I had on it.
I'm really happy with how this CD turned out, and it was an honour to be able to release this for the band. I haven people asking me for copies of this all the time, but I can't justify doing a repress as I don't think there's another 500 people that would be into this nonsense. This music isn't for everybody, that's for sure, but those who are into it are rabid about it.
Sit back with a 12 pack of your favorite beer, punch yourself in the balls with all of your might and enjoy the smooth sounds of SOCKEYE's heyday...
